Thaw

[At Cambridge Common; 2/22/15]

Being in snow-locked Boston last weekend was too much for moi, so D stayed out at my place last weekend. I drove in and retrieved him on Friday night, instead of the usual other way 'round, which also allowed me a trip to my gym Saturday morning while he slept in. He's still recovering from GI issues, so we didn't plan too much adventure. But we did have tickets to a play in the city on Saturday night. It seemed so convenient two months ago when I bought the tickets - we'll walk over to join the group for dinner out and then walk to the theater and walk home again. Little did we know how un-navigable the city would be.

D wasn't up for dining out, of course, so we nixed that. But I did drive us into town and parked for pretty cheap (with theater-validated parking) near the Lyric Stage. The Lyric always does a fine job, and I enjoyed this production, Intimate Apparel, very much, although it was ultimately rather sad. Alas, it was snowing again when we drove home, a couple more inches onto the pile. We've now had the 2nd most snowy winter (>100 inches thus far season-long, although all of this in the past month alone), we may as well go for it now! Just another ~6 inches to go to break the record.

So we got home with the snow flying on Saturday night. But the sun came out on Sunday and it was above freezing for the first time since the end of January, and that was a balm to our weary souls. After a couple of errands in the early afternoon, we ended up in Cambridge and, after finding no parking amid the snowbanks in Harvard Square, we parked a bit further out in Porter Square so we could grab a late lunch in the front windows at a nice pub overlooking the sun shining on melting snow. Lovely!

Amazing to see life going on in the midst of all that weather. I hope you can achieve a slow, gentle thaw with no flooding, or do you fancy breaking the records?

Thanks, RR. I've been really questioning why I live here lately! Alas, it's where my friends are. We'll suffer through a bit longer, but spring will come - hopefully with a gentle thaw as you say. The sunlight is definitely stronger now, and longer. :-)
