[Comm Ave Mall after storm Neptune; 2/15/15]
The sun came out after the storm, although it did little to warm the frigid air amid the gusty winds. Wind chills were reported to be around -6F (-21C) and would drop even lower in the evening. But the snow was rather pretty and certainly impressive, so I bundled up and went to take a look.
[Dog walking on Commonwealth Ave]
I saw quite a few dog walkers out - no matter what the weather, they have to go out. There were also a few people toting bags from the hardware store or CVS, though most stores appeared to be closed and still snowed in. I saw one restaurant open and another had a sign on the door saying they'd be opening in the evening.

And of course the runners were still out running. The Boston Marathon is just a couple of months away and those planning to run in that have to keep up with their training.

Meanwhile, on the Commonwealth Ave Mall, the statues ponder the deepening snow.

But the plows and snowblowers were out. The parking ban continues while they clean up - the main roads anyway. I'm planning to get D's car out of the public garage today and drive it out to my apartment in the 'burbs. Hopefully my landlords will have cleared away the driveway so I will only have to dig out my car and swap positions. I'm not looking forward to it. There is more snow forecast for tomorrow, but just 2 to 3 inches by latest forecast (or 4 to 6+ depending on who is forecasting). Anyway, I can't work from home as I have to go in for various reasons. Worse is that they're warning of a potential snowstorm next weekend. We are all so weary. Spring can't come soon enough.
Wow, so much snow, beautiful yet dangerous too! I've been reading about the historical cold and snow all over the northeast of North America. Hope everyone stays safe and warm. Everyone should be allowed to work at home as much as possible.

Marja-Leena: Yes, it's been a tough winter for many here, and not over yet. I am lucky that I can almost always work from home. I have a new colleague starting today who I have to go in and help train, otherwise I might have stayed home. But it looks like only snow showers today, ~1 inch.

Such glorious shots. Boston has now beaten my town's 2010 record of 80 inches, and we have a month of winter left. I love snow, and in 2010 I was ready for 80 more inches. Piddling amounts this winter, though. But at least it got down to zero degrees this morning with wind chill nearing minus 20. I may have to retire in Siberia, or at least winter there, to get my fill.

Peter, the snow is lovely if you can enjoy it. Unfortunately, many people are really suffering such as those who rely on public transportation for their hourly-wage jobs who are spending hours waiting in the cold for trains that don't arrive or buses full to the brim - for weeks on end now. Plus we've had 120+ roof collapses, including one yesterday that killed two horses in a barn. Driving is hazardous as we have 4- and 5-foot high snow banks at intersections, and people are walking on busy streets because the sidewalks aren't navigable. It's really been extreme. If the snow had been spread out over the entire winter, with some melting in between, it would have been more manageable.

Wow! Stunning pictures of the snow!
Looks really very, very cold.
Here in Brazil we are in summertime.

Thanks, Sonia. I so wish it were summertime here! It is very very cold - it was 5 degrees F (-15C) when I left for work yesterday. But the sun is staying up later every day. Spring will come and melt the snow in another month or so!
