[Santa Speedo Run racers, Boylston St, Boston; 12/14/13]
Just dashing off a quick note as I head into the final stretch before Christmas. D and I were in town yesterday and about to cross Boylston St when the 14th annual Santa Speedo Run participants were running by. Mind you it was about 19 degrees F (-7 C) and we were bundled up head to toe. Brave souls these runners, and all for a good cause (raising money for various children's charities). Friends of mine said that I have blogged about Santa Speedo frequently, but a search shows only once! And that in 2004, on my old blog. Apparently it made an impression. :-) (There was one other mention of Speedos, in a June 2008 post, more appropriately to the weather, but not apropos of the winter running event.)
Anyway, we got out of the city as quickly as possible with a snowstorm arriving that afternoon. We had to get back to my apartment in the 'burbs in time to go get a Christmas tree for my apartment. We were a bit late, with an inch or two on the ground by then, and dark out, but we managed to get one. Which was good because we'd have never gotten out this morning. The snow overnight turned to slush and then flash-froze into cement by this morning. My landlords came and did some snow removal in front of the driveway before the snow-cement shut down their snowblower and it was down to chipping away futilely at what was left. I got my car out, but D is leaving his and will go home by bus/subway tomorrow. We decorated the tree today, then watched the football game, and now he's sound asleep on the couch -- alas, with his legs over mine while I type on my laptop propped up on his. Since I'm stuck here, I figured I may as well post on the blog!
About an hour later...
How very impressive! I especially admire the Santa using braces to keep up the Speedos.
Very happy, peaceful Christmas to you both.

Ha! Yes, some interesting outfits, and quite brave (or bracing as my fingers started to type). Merry Christmas to you and yours!
