[Chinese dogwood (cornus kousa), Boston; 8/7/11]
Symphony of rain last evening, background plats and hiss overlayed with the trill and rattle of the drainpipe - free concert courtesy of summer's open windows, one generosity in these troubled times that's afforded to all (or at least all in the immediate area, as I'm well aware of droughts and punishing heat elsewhere). Then, during the night, a drenching shower with drum-rolling thunder woke me and left me tossing and turning in the humid air, my back and hips protesting every trial position until I closed the windows and put the air conditioner on in my bedroom, finally drifting off until as-yet gray morning.
D is in the hospital, having gone in two days ago with a high fever - rushed in from his doctor's office by ambulance, after which he waited for hours upon hours for any treatment, so much for the rush. I drove to his apartment yesterday and picked up some necessities and his ipod (okay, put that in the necessity category) and reading material to bring him. This morning he called and it sounds as though he had a bad night, but his fever broke and it's possible they'll send him home today, depending on how things go.
We are not having a very good summer.

We've been wondering what this dogwood-seeming tree is outside D's apartment - very late blooming compared to the other dogwoods, but long-lasting. It appears to be Chinese dogwood, just now turning from pale green bracts to pinkish, the way the hydrangeas do as they age.

Well, off to work.
Oh, I do hope he is feeling better soon. Such a dreary place to be, the hospital. I'd much prefer to be at home looking out on dogwood than in the hospital room.

He sounded better today. He'd rather stay and be looked after than be sick at home alone at this point, but I'm sure he'll be anxious to get home soon. His hospital room isn't bad - top floor and near a window. (His apartment is also top floor - too high to see the dogwood!)

I do hope D. continues his recovery. The drama of the ambulance and then the endless wait for attention sounds a familiar story.
I enjoy your description of the rainfall.

You really are having a challenging summer.
I hope that D is soon well and that a little sunshine shines on you both

RR: Yeah, I guess that is an all too familiar story. But at least he had good care.
Mouse: Yup, it has been challenging. Sounds like you're having your own challenges this summer! Hoping for sunshine for us all.
