[Dancing ghosts, my neighborhood; 10/24/09]
Recent seasonal tweets:
On the sidewalk, a woman with a red umbrella brushes a ruddy smudge across wet amber leaves.
--
Surrounded by lucent yellow leaves, the sensation of being inside a champagne flute, bubbles falling instead of rising.
--
The wooded path was spun full-round with autumn-ochre leaves like a tunnel, a gold-throated wormhole traversing to winter. I turned back.
--
Fall eye feast: Mac-apple & cranberry reds, pumpkin & persimmon oranges, butternut & fingerling yellows, a blue-sky platter.
--
Orange and yellow leaves on a graceful branch - a dancer's hand in a ruffled chiffon sleeve.
--
Yellow-leafed woods: staged sunshine.
--
Another yellow maple pinch-hits for the benched sun.
--
Sudden lemony brightness on a rainy drive - a maple gleaming yellow.
--
Making apple-cinnamon pancakes this morning to tempt the sun, still drowsing among the clouds.
Such lovely pictures you paint, with words!

Congrats on the new blog template: it's very sleek!
I'm still trying to figure out what the ruddy smudge is in the first Tweet. Is it the shadow from the woman's umbrella, or red leaves blown by the momentum of her passing?

Thanks, Marja-Leena!
Lorianne: Thanks - I think it's one of the new TypePad designs - at any rate, off the shelf. I wanted a bit wider post column. I guess the ruddy smudge is open to interpretation. :-)

Yes, everything is open to interpretation...but what did YOU see? (Damn poets never want to literalize their own work...grumble, grumble...) ;-)

Well, I believe it was a mixture of red and gold leaves, with a woman walking by in front of them carrying a red umbrella. I made up a different image, or perhaps I should say I failed to capture what I did see!

Ah, okay. The reason I asked is because my first gut reaction to "ruddy smudge" was "blood," and that didn't fit the rest of the image.
But if the brushed smudge is the sight of her umbrella moving past the trees she's passing, not a red mark on the leaves on the ground...well, yeah, that's an entirely different image, one I "missed." (In other words, "My bad.") :-)
