[Porch window; 7:15am, 1/3/08]
Jack Frost is an elfish creature who...is said to leave frosty crystal patterns on windows on cold mornings.
Jack Frost was here, he etched on the windows this morning. A cold morning it is, at 7ºF, with wind chills around -13ºF. It is not supposed to get much warmer all day. I am wearing my Wristies as I type and eat my breakfast, along with long underwear under my jeans, an undershirt, turtleneck, wool sweater and fleece vest. And I have a fleece throw on my lap. I have to figure out what layers to wear to the office today, since it will be warmer there. But first I have to get there, which will mean scraping Frost's etchings off the windshield of my frozen car.
Fortunately, tomorrow is expected to be warmer, and much warmer this weekend -- as in somewhere around a balmy 40ºF. Too warm for that pesky elf.
Happy New Year, Leslee! I'm freezing too. Wonderful pictures!

Fantastic photos!! My husband, who commutes by bicycle, swears by merino wool against the skin, under other layers as needed. Keep warm, Leslee!

Happy new year - and wonderful pictures! We got a tiny splatter of possible sleet today instead of the promised snow. It's cold, for us, but not nearly as cold as it is for you!

Beth: Happy New Year! I can imagine that in Montreal these temperatures are par for the course.
Marja-Leena: Thanks! The scarf I'm knitting is merino wool - very nice, and soft.
RR: Happy New Year, and thanks! This is crazy cold, expensive cold (oil-heat-wise). Sleet is nasty stuff - much prefer snow.

Already today is warmer than yesterday ever was: double-digits, baby! I'm feeling a heat wave coming on... ;-)

In ancient times, when the old king was still alive & we had no central heating, I'd wake up to windows totally obscured by frost such as in those lovely pics. Seems inconceivable now.

Lovely pictures!
I am rather fond of cold weather, having been a Scandinavian pine tree in a past life
Happy New Year!

What great photos, perfectly representing winter. I think I wished too hard for rain because we've had 3 days of flooding out here in the Bay Area. Thank goodness we snagged a generator! I'd still prefer snow to rain, but hey, it's better than sunshine and warm weather.

Lorianne: Yes, I hear it's going to be in the 50s this week, which is pretty crazy after the subzero windchill temps last week.
Dick: That's pretty cold! I lived in an old dorm in college and had to stuff a pillow in the window because it was so drafty - there'd be frost inside the window behind the pillow.
Mouse: Very funny. Happy New Year to you!
Kat: Sorry to hear of all the rain and floods out there. Hope it's clearing up. As for too much sunshine, honey, you need to live in Michigan some time to cure you of that notion!
