More demon wrestling lately. I had one bad morning last week and fortunately I'd packed my walking Tevas before work, so I put them on and went out during my lunch break, up a steep hill lined with expensive houses until I found the oasis of the Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary, which was lovely and the paths quiet and empty. I didn't have time to stop and contemplate, but expending energy was probably what was needed anyway. I looped around one path then back out and down the hill again into town, stopping in Starbucks, my most frequently visited town venue, ironically (for a caffeine vendor) mellowed by the sounds of The Grateful Dead's Box of Rain. I returned to work transported.
This weekend all my friends were away. I shopped yesterday at the outlet mall, needing new work clothes with the change of season. I did pretty well. Shopping therapy. But I woke in the night chased again by the dark dogs and all my attempts to make friends with them, well, by tonight we're somewhat at a standoff, which isn't half bad. We sit and look at each other out of the corner of our eyes, nobody making any oversize moves.
I got housecleaning, laundry and food shopping done today, then went to the movies. Saw Little Miss Sunshine, which I enjoyed - failure as the human condition, bitter and touching and generous.
My weekend echoes the productive sounds of housecleaning, and grocery shopping but my demons have long since walked off with the wrestling championship belt and refuse to offer any rematches.
Glad you were able to be transported from your bad day and hope any ill winds avoid you this week.

Where do you go outlet shopping? Classes start this week (already?!?), and although I have clothes for the first week, I'm realizing that I'm not yet ready for a change in season.
I love the back-lit goldenrod: one of my favorites!

Keith: Thanks. I'd be happy if mine would walk off, too, even as victors. They'd only been on a nice long vacation.
Lorianne: Wrentham - it's about a half hour drive from here. And mobbed last weekend. If you go shopping at any outlets, go early! Glad you liked the shot.

Lorainne's right, tt *is* a nice shot. Sorry to hear you're dogged by bad thoughts/anxiety/depression/whatever. I'm sure it will pass.

M. & I went to see Little Miss Sunshine as well. I don't remeber when I laughed as much at a movie. Very funny, tender and insightful. What makes a winner? Maybe it is just the ability to get a glimse of your own unique character and celebrating it with abandon.

It's strange how you manage to transmit this feeling of "serenity" even though you are writing -also- about that oh-so-common extreme sport that I also excell at, demon struggling.
Serenity- a feeling I find whenever I pass by your blog.

This post is a the way the river of a life is. The ongoing eddies and currents that jostle as they go, as they carry along. Moving about big boulders and snagging small twigs. But all within a beautiful flowing. Maybe that's the serenity Ernesto feels.

Walking, walking, walking. It is the only way to chase off that black dog. At least in my experience. If it doesn't work, you aren't walking hard enough. I KNOW it works. Keep it up!
And cheers....

Thanks, all.
Roberta: Didn't you love it? I laughed and cried. "What makes a winner? Maybe it is just the ability to get a glimse of your own unique character and celebrating it with abandon." Now that's a goal worth shooting for.
Ernesto: They should make it an Olympic event. I imagine the Russians might win. (Y gracias otra vez.)
MB: Wonderful, but then I know you've been practicing at putting these things in poetic perspective.
Tom: Thanks. And I think you're right. As soon as it stops raining here...

I've heard great comments about "Little Miss Sunshine", I am contemplating watching it tomorrow with my Sister(quality time). She loves going to movies, I am hoping she is willing to watch it.
Great shot...
