I missed FedEx by an hour today. My new laptop is nestled in its box somewhere, on the truck or at the nearest FedEx depot, despite back and forth calls with dispatch. A tennis ball in neither court, presently unreachable. My Kindle likewise out of reach because I left it at the doctor's office today and didn't have time to retrieve it between a client conference call and closing time. And if/when I go get it tomorrow, will not the FedEx guy arrive the moment I have left the house?

I've been out of sorts lately, no doubt in large part due to not sleeping well. This has aggravated my neck pain, which at times throws its voice like a surly ventriloquist up into my cranium with such vehemence that my head wants to split. Thus the appointment today with a physiatrist recommended by a friend, and quite a good recommendation I can tell already. She Knows what it is and has a Plan. Step 1 addresses the Pain, and Step 2 addresses the Wrong Mechanics. Simple enough. And a side recommendation to try melatonin. If that fails, maybe some hormone therapy would be in order.

Meanwhile, work has been slow, which is both good and bad. Good for catching up on various things, for sleeping late to make up for lost mid-night sleep, for not having to deal with lots of demands while low on fuel; bad, of course, for income and planning. But I think things will change soon as I've made some good connections for potential new work. And today I caved and let my former employer know that I have some time free through the end of the month, and they're happy to throw some work my way. So I will presumably be able to pay for the new laptop. Which I am anxious to see. It would be nice to break it in before I get busy again.

Oh, those indeterminate limbo states are frustrating. Good luck with the lap-top, the Kindle and the neck.
That's a wonderfully law-abiding squirrel!

Yikes. That first photo pretty much sums it up, eh? I hope things starting "rolling your way" soon.

RR: Thanks - two down, one to go!
Lorianne: It's about how I felt. I finally went out to retrieve my Kindle this afternoon when my upstairs neighbor came home, so I posted her as lookout for FedEx. But he came about 20 minutes after I got back. At any rate, all my electronic items are in my possession! Still setting up the laptop, but I think I'll be very happy with it - I think it's almost as light as my Kindle!
