[Garden at Old South Church, Boston; May 1, 2010]
I don't think I've blogged a collection of recent tweets in awhile, possibly since fall. So here are some tweets of this season, from most recent going backwards to the first of March...
--
Walking to work: Cool planes of smooth swept stoops invite me to lie flat, the calm earth's familiar, leave vertical to the ambitious trees.
--
The trampled confetti of yesterday’s cherry blossoms, like missed blessings.
--
A cardinal lands on a wire overhead; its red light stops me.
--
Within the thick hedge, rustling wings, like the whispers of children unable to keep still in their hiding place.
--
In trash-strewn grass beside tenement steps, sprightly tulips.
--
On the way to work: An electrical worker in a hard hat kneels in the street before a gaggle of leggy, bubble-headed yellow tulips.
--
Rain drops string along a chain link fence like endless beads of workdays, fingered absently then dissolved.
--
--
Magnolia blossoms - a thousand pink tongues to taste the morning air.
--
On my first day walking to work, an old man trimming hedges smiles good morning. I'm no longer passing through. I live here.
--
Sunday in the city: Families in Easter finery cross anime conventioneers on the plaza like matter and antimatter.
--
After the rains: Green garden hoses snake from basement windows past the gaping daffodils.
--
Surely this is a surfeit of drifting dandelion seeds, not spring snow. The indifferent daffodils beam like summer sun.
--
Strange dreams: a man with dozens of toes on his foot, and a friend marries a cowboy with a prosthetic leg in his boot.
--
Rubbed raw with excessive spring rain, the lawn erupts in a purple rash of crocuses.
--
Just-hatched yellow crocuses, their baby bird mouths clamoring for the sun.
--
I wake to find yesterday's hyperactive snowflakes settled down to sleep. The sun still hiding, loathe to wake them.
--
This morning's snow a love note writ in disappearing ink. And I awoke too late.
--

Ooh, I really like these tweets, Leslee, and all together like this.
Spring is just the best season, isn't it, a reward after a long winter?

You're really good at this. Thanks for the collection, because it's easy to miss stuff on Twitter.

I really like these - they remind me of haiku

Thanks, all! It's fun to pull them together. Maybe I should do it seasonally.

I agree with Fire Bird. I had not realised that Tweeting could be an art form.

Have liked these on Twitter but even more as a collection. Thanks for the re-visit today! (Really like the photo, too.)

RR: Yes, I figure if I only have to write 140 characters or less, maybe I can actually fit something creative into my limited time.
Thanks, Beth. It's gratifying to know that people enjoy them.

These really do convince me that tweeting can be an art form! They are lovely, and the photos too. And it's good for those of us who don't do twitter to see them here together.
Your tulipmania is most enjoyable, and I love what you said that spring is a rather girlie time of year!

what a poetic treat, leslee! thanks.

Thanks, Lucy! Lacking time for lengthy, thoughtful posts, tweeting and snapping photos is at least something I can manage.
Sky: Thanks! Glad you enjoyed them.
