Spring in the neighborhood

Scilla1 Forsythia
Forsythiaplayground Daffodils
[Scilla, forsythia, and daffodils; 7pm, 4/15/08]

I was in Grafton for so long, I knew just where I'd see the first forsythia, and the magnolias, dogwoods, and weeping cherries in spring bloom. Now, here in Belmont, it's all a surprise waiting to be discovered.

Meanwhile, work has been insane. Every day lately, it's writing for 8 or more hours almost nonstop. Which doesn't allow for much perspective and the sense of doing a thorough, thoughtful job. Sigh. (Nor, I might add, does it leave any mental bandwidth for writing here or reading/commenting elsewhere.)

Nice spring shots! Hope work eases a bit and you will have more time to enjoy it.

I remember last spring the pleasure of discovering yellow celandine for the first time in a hidden spot by the river.

No pressure to post. When you can. We'll wait.

Scilla, eh? I just saw some of that yesterday evening for the first time, and none of the people I was with knew what it was called. So thanks!

Thanks, Marja-Leena. I think it's easing a bit, but I don't want to jinx it by saying so!

MM: I don't know if I've ever seen celandine, although according to my field guide we have it here. Anyway, thank you for your kind comment. :-)

Dave: Scilla seems to be rampant hereabouts, particularly the electric blue. Someone on my recent walk in Mt. Auburn Cemetery identified it.

It looks like we are about a week ahead of you in DC, but we haven't seen dogwood yet. Is your work pace going to slow down any time soon?

Never mind, the spring will help see you through!

Joanna and Lucy: Yes, the sunshine and buds bursting are helping. Alas, tendinitis in my foot will drastically curtail my exploring. I may be spending much time on the porch this weekend, which is some consolation. K is going to be gone for a week, so I'll have lots of quiet alone time (save for Ingrid) to give my brain a rest.

Ah, you have an earlier spring inside 128 than we do. The striped squill (smaller, tighter clustered and pale blue) started last week, right before my landlord dumped a bunch of mulch on top of them (grr), but my much larger, heartier daffodils are just starting to bloom today.
