At 2:30am, the snow hadn't even started*. I was searching for my sleep-coaxing herb drops and 15 minutes later ibuprofen for my back. By 7 or so it was all icy-white and nasty. The voice on the answering system said the office wouldn't open until noon, so I went back to bed. A couple more hours of fitful dozing...an icy boat in a storm, something falling onto the floor, my father calling my name and saying Good-bye, the grinding of snowplows, half-dreaming half-awake, startles from within and without, too fatigued to rise and get on with the day, too edgy to fall into deep sleep. Somehow I eventually cobbled together enough sleep to feel reasonably functional.
At 9am, K was out shoveling the long driveway, along with the landlords and their two sons. By the time I got out, it was all done but uncovering my car from under several inches of heavy snow. K brought Ingie out and, unlike some previous snowstorms, she seemed unperturbed (during last week's thunderstorm she wouldn't budge from under the bed until mid-day), so K let her run in the back yard. Yup, not perturbed at all.
If you'd like to frolic vicariously in the snow yourself, I've added new pix to my rapidly accumulating snow set for this winter.

*Well, others say it started earlier, so perhaps this was an earlier foray around the apartment? Could be. See also Lorianne's photo-set here.

Sorry about your disturbed sleep! The snow is so bright and beautiful! Whereas here it's blowing and pouring buckets of rain, again - so dark and dreary. Be safe out there!

This may make you feel better about your winters:

Thanks, Marja-Leena. I was reading the article about much less snow in the northeast and thinking, "Haven't they heard about our record-breaking snow this year?!" But I guess they're saying it's erratic. We didn't have much snow the last couple of years. Anyway, the snow is pretty, and I'll take it over gloom and rain. Hope things clear up there soon!

Hee! Tiny Ingrid in snow! Very cute.
Sorry about the pain and the plows. After a week of hardly being able to sleep at night at all because of pain and sickness, I've actually slept the sleep of hibernation the last two nights. Never even heard the plows. There's something about storms of every kind, anything with lowered barometric pressure, that just drops me like a drug.

Wow. Take care of that back, Leslee, but from these rain-sodden parts those photographs are quite magical.

Well, if it helps Ingrid overcome her snowphobia, then okay!

The top one looks like a film set. Ingrid looks happy!

Your first picture looks like a painting. It's beautiful. What a shame about the awful sleep patterns. Really sucks. I've been an insomniac for many years and I hate the tossing and turning and odd dreams that weave in and out and jumble up into a bit knot! I use melatonin with pretty good success (3 to 6 milligrams) right before you turn out the light. Sweet dreams, tonight, I hope.

Beautiful snow pics. Wishing you better sleep.

Thanks, Sara. Glad to hear you're feeling better!
MM: Thanks. It's very sticky snow - not good for powerlines, but it's pretty.
Joanna: I don't think she has snow phobia, as I recall her being out in it before. But something spooked her before - maybe the plows.
Lucy: Thanks. Ingrid looks insane! Especially in the 2nd photo - we were laughing over it here.
Kat: Thanks. I'm not sure if I've tried melatonin or not. I'm always leery of taking stuff. Could try it if this keeps up. Did sleep better last night, though woke up a few times.
TG: Thank you. :-)

You've proved conclusively that there are no average snows, only marvelous ones.

Thanks, Patry! Looks like we'll have more snow to test that theory out on!
