[Tulips in the Boston Public Garden; April 22, 2006]
Though we've had near-70°F, sunny weather for several days, you can never count on that in April. Truer to form, yesterday it was more like the upper 40s and threatening drizzle, but that didn't stop people from coming out in Boston, including one wedding party we saw in the Boston Public Garden. And it didn't stop Lorianne and I from our appointed Newbury Street gallery crawl. My favorite was the first gallery we entered, Lanoue Fine Art, which has been in business only a year or so. They had a nice collection of contemporary art, much of which, if I had money for such things, I'd be happy to have in my home. The woman who showed us around (Ms. Lanoue herself?) was enthusiastic about the art without being obtrusive, very pleasant. We also inadvertantly stumbled into the end of a talk at the Judi Rotenberg gallery by the artist Jennifer Liston Munson, whose work involved essentially abstract photographs from Mexico City and Oaxaca, blown out, cut up and incorporated into mixed media works with oil paint or simply re-envisioned in oil paint. Interesting.

We managed to hit quite a few of the galleries - up one side of Newbury Street and down the other, with a side trip through the Public Garden and finishing up at Tapéo, which bills itself as "The only Authentic Spanish Food in Boston." Hm, well I don't know if that attitude comes from the Spanish or the Newbury Street locale, but the bar, empty when we arrived but quickly filling up, welcomed us with good tapas and mojitos and margaritas (in lieu of sangria we went for the bebidos of the conquered), a perfect ending to the day.
We didn't do the Boston Duck Tours (maybe some day, when visitors insist), but we did see ducks - real and, um, imagined.

As usual, your lovely pictures of New England make me nostalgic and a wee tad homesick. I keep coming back, though....so please keep sharing!

These places sound like places that Paul and I should investigate when we do our vacation in Boston this June. Duck Tours? Shouldn't they be swans?

Sorry, Lisa! :-)
Joanna: Yeah, they have the Duck Tours that drive through town and the river. They do look like fun. The Swan Boats are in the Public Garden - they're pretty, but kinda tame compared to the wacky duck tours!

Aw, duckies!
The only time I ever went on a Boston Duck Tour I fell asleep about five minutes in. I stayed that way for most of the trip, though I did wake up when we hit the water.
Yeah, we were with guests from out of town, guests who actually paid for the tickets. Oops.
