The nature of personal weblogs seems to correspond perfectly to the symbolism of the astrological 3rd house - a place for writing on a small scale as opposed to mass media, writing daily about everyday things, and sharing personal thoughts. Conversation is fostered by the "comments" function on weblogs. And a neighborhood - another 3rd house matter - develops out of the blogroll, our links to other blogs we read.
The original intention of my first blog, 3rd House Party, was to be a group blog for my former offline writers group. Hence "Party". The group blog didn't pan out, but I discovered a whole world of online writers who inspire me and many who encourage me in my own work. I've also made many online friends and even some in the offline world through this blog.
I changed the name to 3rd House Journal because it seems more to the point - it's "a personal record of occurrences, experiences, and reflections kept on a regular basis" - whether my posts take the form of notes or poems or photographs. And I hope it continues to be a sharing space as well.
